Reiniel Vicente Diaz
Reiniel Vicente Diaz, a second-generation rum maker, was born and raised in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, a city immersed in the art of rum production. Growing up surrounded by sugar cane fields, sugar mills, and a rum distillation facility, Reiniel developed a deep appreciation and understanding of the craft. Following in the footsteps of his father, Omar Vicente, who served as the Master Blender of a prestigious Cuban rum distillery for 15 years, Reiniel’s destiny in the world of rum was set from a young age.
At the age of 13, Reiniel’s father made the decision to relocate the family to the Dominican Republic, opening up new horizons and opportunities. It was there that Reiniel eagerly immersed himself in his father’s work, actively participating in the design, preparation, and tastings of fine rums. His hands-on experience and exposure to the intricacies of rum production further fueled his passion for the study of distillates and the art of processing rums.
Driven by his dedication to mastering his craft, Reiniel pursued a degree in chemical engineering at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. This academic foundation, combined with his practical knowledge and unwavering enthusiasm, propelled him into the professional world of rum production. Reiniel’s talents were recognized by several prominent Dominican rum companies, where he honed his skills and contributed to the development of numerous exceptional rum products.
In 2013, Reiniel made a significant move to the United States, where he embarked on a new chapter of his career as part of the Bayou® Rum team. Joining as Master Blender/Distiller and Production Manager, Reiniel assumed full control over the entire rum-making process for Bayou’s acclaimed and award-winning rums. This encompassed overseeing every aspect, from sourcing the finest raw materials to meticulous fermentation, distillation, aging, and precise blending techniques.
